TV-Programmes via sattelite for the first time

January, 1998 saw the commencement of broadcasting via satellite, digital from the very start.  The satellite platform ORF DIGITAL is available in encrypted form only, for reasons of copyright of TV contents.

Digital terrestrial television

TV switchover from analogue to digital was successfully completed within five years (2006 – 2011).  Switchover from DVB-T to DVB-T2 will be implemented in the period 2014 – 2017. This switchover will improve the quality of the TV picture –DVB-T2 permits reception of the TV programme in High Definition (HD - confer reference projects DVB-T2/simpliTV).

Signal processing for cable

For dissemination via cable, ORS realized a cable multiplex for central signal processing of Austrian "Must-Carry" programmes (ORF 1, ORF 2, ATV and PULS 4). Austrian cable network operators can take over two multiplex signals from the nearest regional ORF studio and directly feed them into their head end system. These DVB signals are transmitted in clear and without dynamic component relay.
